Dawgs Survive Slow Start...Gaines Injured
Georgia survived a very slow start, trailing by as many as 12 points, by going on a 25-2 run that put them ahead 48-35 at the break. Georgia went on to defeat Jacksonville 93-77. But the victory did not come without a price. Starting point guard and reigning SEC Player of the Week Sundiata Gaines went down with an ankle injury in the first half and did not return.

Sundiata's status for the Tech game is unknown. If he can't go, Mike Mercer would most likely get the start at point guard. However, look for several Bulldogs sharing the point guard responsibilities throughout the game.
Sluggish Start
I can't fault the team for not being overly motivated at the start of the game. The Steg was very empty. I suppose that is what happens when you play a home game against Jacksonville on a weeknight when school is out. Luckily though they played through their slow start and won convincingly. That is what good teams do.

Even with the students out, that crowd is a disgrace. Coming off the big win over Gonzaga, there should have been at least 5-6k there regardless of the opponent.
ReplyDeleteFelton will move on to a program that actually has knowledgeable hoops fans and supports the team year in and year out within the next 3 or 4 years, if not sooner.
If Georgia continues to play like they are, the support will come. I was in college for the 2nd Jirsa year, and all of Harrick's years. During those last two seasons under Harrick, the Steg was electric. I hear it was the same for Tubby. I don't think Felton is going anywhere. All this program needs is consistency and the support will come. There is a reason why Duke, North Carolina, and Kentucky have great crowds.
