Weighing in on the Mighty Gators' Title
Florida won the national championship in football, but the sky is not falling as many Georgia fans seem to believe. I really don't see why people are so upset about this. Look, I hate Florida as much as anybody, but this is nothing but good for the entire SEC. This game proved to the nation that a one loss SEC team is better than an undefeated Big 10 team. The PTI guys even said they didn't know if Ohio State could make it through the SEC without losing not one, but two games. Amen to that Kornheiser.
I tell you what, I bought in to all the Big 10 hoopla around the time of the Ohio State vs. Michigan game. I actually believed that those were the best two teams in the nation. Never again will I fall for that. I mean, how slow was Ohio State? More importantly, how slow was Troy Smith? He looked nothing like the Heisman trophy winner. Nothing.
This guy won the Heisman? Image from OnlineAthens.com.
Also in this game, the great Tim Tebow continued to play fullback. And Florida even scored a touchdown when he, gasp, threw the ball. Things are going to be a little different for Tim next year when teams aren't expecting him to run every play. I can't wait for this guy to stink as a starter. That would be awesome.

The sky is not falling, as you say. Tebow, however, may be really good. Who knows. But here is a prediction. Stafford ends his career 3-1 against the gators and is credited in the Bulldawg Nation with stopping the voo-doo madness! Write it down. You heard it here first.

I agree this is great for the SEC. Even a Florida player said he'd put 4 or 5 other SEC teams up against Ohio and they would've played the same way.
ReplyDeleteThen again, everything in that game went Florida's way.
As for Tebow, he reminds me of Vick, inconsistent but capable of greatness.
As someone who's spouse may be attending Florida next fall for grad school, I cringe at the idea of meeting her for lunch on campus in Gainesville. However, as The Original Blawger says, Go SEC!! If anybody needs me, I'll be at Walmart shopping for jean shorts...
ReplyDeleteAnon - Don't forget to stop by the barber shop on the way home from Wal-Mart. You need a mullett if you really want to fit in.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteHopefully you're not attending UF for Business or Law School. THAT would be a shame and a mistake since UGa boasts a superior product in both. Not only that, but having to tolerate the swamp (which is what Gainesville actually is) for 2-3 years would be dismal.
If you've ever been to Gainesville you'll know that it's a cesspool when compared to Athens - no debating that.
