Look for Isner at the US Open Today

John Isner is in the US Open as a wild card entry. He is playing 26 seed Jarkko Nieminen today in the first round. He'll be playing in Louis Armstrong Stadium following the conclusion of the Max Mirnyi v. Marcos Baghdatis match which starts at 11am. Coverage begins at 11am on USA. Based on the other matches that could be going on at the same time, I'm not sure whether Isner will get any airtime today. His match should be the biggest men's match at that time. But he is likely to be up against Justin Henin, the number one seed in the women's draw. Hopefully the fact that he is an American at the US Open gets him on tv.

If Isner upsets Nieminen today, he should get it easier in the second round. He'd be playing one of two qualifiers, Thierry Ascione or Rik DeVoest. If he were to get past either of them, he'd have the pleasure of facing Roger Federer in the 3rd round. Needless to say, Isner didn't get a very favorable draw.

  1. unfortunately Isner is not fairing well. He lost the first set 7-6 and is losing the 2nd set 4-3.
Hope he rallies in this 2nd set & gives himself a shot!
