ProDawg of the Week

I almost had to call this post ProDawg of the Weak. Reggie Brown continued his ineffectiveness despite his team putting up 56 points. Hines got injured and went catchless. Champ did have 8 tackles but when does a team want their corner to have to tackle that much? And Leonard Pope backed up my previous statements by not even getting targeted in Week 3.

One bright spot was Martrez Milner's first career reception for the Falcons followed by a UGA shout out by Tony Boselli (credit Jim). By the way, Boselli has been in the booth for all the Falcons games so far and I think he is a quality color guy. He was even pretty good at being impartial during the Jags game even though he still lives there and is in their "Circle of Honor" or whatever.

So, this week's ProDawg of the week? Jermaine Phillips! The former DonnanDawg wideout had 7 tackles, 1 Pass Defensed and his first Interception of the year en route to shutting down a struggling St. Louis offense. The Roswell native has really made himself into a very solid pro on a rejuvenated Tampa Bay team. Growing up nearby I remember seeing Jermaine play basketball...dude is a freak! I always wished he had given hoops a more serious run in college. Phillips overcame injuries and a position change in school and has carved out quite an impressive 6 year career, especially when you remember that he was a 5th round choice.

  1. Actually played basketball against JP in HS, he beat us on an full court inbounds play that basically turned into a fade route that he caught and then dunked even though our coach screamed in the huddle "dont let him get by you"

Also I remember him at UGA as sortof the start of the hard hitting legacy, he used to blow up special teams all the time. I feel like TD and Blue followed Phillips lead into the flesh bomb category.

    great blog

  2. Yeah, he was a man amongst boys in high school basketball. Sorta like if Jevon Kearse played rugby against 7th graders or something.

Great point about his special teams hits. Blue and Davis would kill people but Phillips was a head hunter covering kicks.

    Thanks for reading!

  3. Remember him well from HS, if I am not mistaken he took us (along with Scott Poleman et al) to state in Macon...which we won ~'97-ish.

The best thing about the "MAIN TRAIN" is his ability to hit like a man three times his size...

GOT A CLIP OF THE UGA vs GA SOUTHERN GAME.. He literally lifted the man up and body slammed him! Yea, it was Ga Southern, but somebody tell Michigan how to play those opponents.

    GoooOOOO DAWGS!!!

  4. I couldn't agree more about Jermaine starting the recent hard hitting safety legacy. Actually, I think his best hit was on offense. In the '98 Florida game Georgia fumbled. Phillips the receiver immediately became Phillips the head hunter. He clocked the Florida player that recovered the fumble, and Georgia got the ball back.

  5. I think that Roswell team also had Abe Smith...he and Pohlman went to Auburn where Abe did NOTHING which was weird.
