Dancing Just Got Much Tougher

Today Dennis Felton announced the suspensions of Mike Mercer, Takais Brown, and Albert Jackson "for violating the athletic department's class attendance and academic appointment policy." Mercer is suspended for 15 games once he is medically cleared to play basketball. Brown is suspended for 9 games, and Jackson is suspended for 6 games. Brown and Jackson's suspensions start with the exhibition against Clayton State.

Looking at the schedule, the players will miss the following games.

Keep in mind that is the best case scenario for Mercer. If he isn't medically cleared before the season starts, his suspension could go even deeper into SEC play. On top of that, each player's suspension could get even longer. From the article...
If a UGA student-athlete misses three classes - the first two unexcused absences result in a meeting with the head coach and the sport's chief administrator - he or she is suspended for the number of games that equal 10 percent of the season. Each subsequent unexcused absence after that results in an additional 10 percent suspension.
So, each class these guys miss from here on out tacks 3 games on to their suspension. If you are a student and you have a class with one of these guys, get their number and make sure they get their butts in class. This is ridiculous.

Georgia Head basketball coach Dennis Felton just can't catch a break. First, he inherits a program devastated by the Jim Herrick era. Then one of his cornerstone recruits, Louis Williams , decides to fore-go college and go straight to the NBA via the Philadelphia 76ers. Now in his 5th season.....a season with NCAA post season aspirations......his players.....'eh .....can't seem to find the right building that's conducting their class. Seems, Mike Mercer (starting guard), Takais Brown ( leading scorer), and (backup center) Albert Jackson were cited for violating the athletics department's class-attendance and academic-appointment policy. For the upcoming 2007-8 season, Mercer has been suspended for 15 games, Brown 9 games, and Jackson 6 games. To make matters worse, Mercer is coming off a torn ACL in his right knee. The suspensions don't start until he is medically cleared to play, so it's quite possible he could miss the majority of the season........Guys......you live.....on campus....There are buses.....ALL buildings have numbers that indicate the correct addresses. GO TO CLASS!!

  3. Anon - You are so wrong. All three players will not play against Wisconsin. Only Albert Jackson will be back for Wake Forest. Mercer will miss Gonzaga and Georgia Tech. We need to split those four games to boost our RPI.

Plus, Mercer won't be back until three games into SEC play at the earliest.
