As the seconds were winding down in Georgia's 72-50 win over Wake Forest on Saturday, I looked at my dad and said, "Dawgs leave Deacons in their Wake." Unfortunately, I didn't get around to writing a post with that headline that day. Then Sunday morning my dad called and informed me the headline had already been used, although slightly altered.
Oh well, you snooze you lose. And I guess that's what I get for coming up with cheesy headlines that newspaper headline writers will obviously think of.
As for the game, I don't care if Wake ends up being terrible, this was a nice win. I especially enjoyed the dunk fest late in the game.
Early on, it was incredibly sloppy on the part of both teams. Then Georgia built a big lead that Wake cut into before the half. If Georgia didn't turn the ball over 26 times in the game, it would have been even more of a blowout.
I'm not sure what we're going to get with this team. We have talent and depth (I really like Swansey and Price), but we lack experience. We also lack an inside presence that you feel can get you that clutch basket when needed. An Anthony Evans, Steve Thomas, or Takais Brown type from recent memory. But, I'll be following this team either way. I'd love to see them put a nice run together before we kick off conference play.

I attended the game, and midway through the first half Takais Brown and Mike Mercer snuck in (as much as guys that big can sneak) and sat a few seats down from me. It was good to see them supporting the team, even though it has to be uncomfortable, but it was also hard not to imagine how good this team could have been with them on the court...
ReplyDeleteThat's very interesting that both those guys were there. I guess that's a good thing?
