Well, President Adams and his gin blossom are back in the news. It seems that Adams wants to be seen as different from the evil university president fraternity that commentators and talk radio people claim are keeping us from a playoff. Adams proposes an 8 team format and threw out this scathing comment on the current system "[The BCS is a] beauty contest largely stage-managed by the networks." He later made the BCS shake in their boots by adding that "it is undercutting the sportsmanship and integrity of the game." Easy Mike. I would love this move if we had a (Adams' words) president who hasn't lost public confidence and had a president whose system works. Seriously, Adams jumped on the opportunity to get a little more publicity (press conference this afternoon!) for UGA (read: himself). You know, some schools and their alumni love their presidents. I wonder what that feels like...
Of course if we finally do get a playoff (and don't get me wrong, I want one) this means that Adams can pat himself on the back and tell everyone who will listen that he made it happen. No word on the potential parade or what job Adams will want to jump to if this does go through.
the only problem with an 8 team playoff system is that the teams that have the same record and are ranked 9th and 10th etc.. are going to complain because they think that they deserve a shot to be with the 8 teams.. thats why i say KEEP THE BCS, yeah it screwed georgia over this year but if you have a playoff system you could still say that you got screwed because you had the same record as the 8th ranked team...

"plus one" is the best. but i sure wont complain if there is an 8 team playoff. you cant blame adams, hes just trying to get rid of his loser reputation...its about time he did something right.
ReplyDeleteThe BCS basically renders all bowl games aside from the National Championship game irrelevant. At least in the old days, there were several bowls that mattered. After they played out, you argued who was number one. Now, you almost have to go with the winner of the "title game." I'd rather go back to the old system than keep the BCS. Ideally, I'd like a playoff. I prefer 8 teams to a plus one. Do you realize if we had a plus one this year using the BCS, Georgia wouldn't have made it?
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the backlash? Adams is screwing us up because he pissed off the big 10 and pac 10. Which have coaches that vote in the coaches’ poll, which determines the BCS rankings. Also the Harris interactive poll has a representative from every D1 school. Once again, we will be screwed by the pac 10 and big 10. Also he pissed off the BCS bowls themselves and if we fall he could screw us out of an at large bid. Thanks adams. Thanks for being an idiot, showing your rear end, and damaging our football program and school in the eyes of America.
