at home. Three of the five losses during the losing streak were on the road. One at Tennessee which was obviously going to happen. One at Florida where they lost basically because they ran out of gas. The loss at South Carolina was bad. At home, they lost to Vandy, a very good team, and Kentucky who is Kentucky. At home, we play pretty good basketball. The road is a different story.
Tonight, Georgia played its best game since beating Arkansas at home on January 19th. What was the difference? The shots fell. The defense has remained pretty solid throughout the losing streak, take away the Tennessee game. The problem is you're not going to shoot .517 from the field night in and night out. If we could continue to shoot well from the foul line like we did tonight, that would be a huge boost.
I'd love to see this team just continue to improve for the rest of the season. I'm not going to go crazy and say there will be any kind of postseason, because there won't outside of a miracle. I just want to see improvement.
Go Dawgs!
Excellent comments. A lot of folks are frustrated, but they need to be objective about what this team is capable of.
ReplyDeleteIf "improvement" is judged by wins and losses, I'm afraid the rest of this year isn't going to look too good. UT, at Vandy, at UK, Florida, at LSU, at Auburn, Ole Miss. We might not be favored in any of those.
Objectivity and loyalty are two entirely different concepts.
ReplyDeleteUGA basketball has sucken into obscurity and apathy. A victory over South Carolina, while much needed, is hardly reason to celebrate a change in fortunes.
One can rationalize about how the team does well with the talent they have, but to quote Mike Gundy, "THIS IS THE BIG LEAGUES!" The state of Georgia is hardly devoid of basketball talent.
UGA basketball's program is off the tracks and the sole person responsible is Dennis Felton. He may be a good person. He may be a tough disciplinarian, but his stewardship over the past five years has been weak at best.
At what point is enough enough? Poor on the court results and poor off the court results. I say Felton needs to go.
I blame Vince Dooley.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 9:24 - I know I won't be able to judge improvement by wins and losses. I just want to see better basketball. The main things I'm looking for is more agressiveness from Albert Jackson, and then more consistency from the freshmen.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 10:04 - First off, I'm not celebrating a change in fortunes. Georgia has been a good team at home all year, thus the 11-2 record at home. Second, this team isn't as far off as it looks. If Takais Brown and Mike Mercer were on this team, we'd be headed to the NCAA tournament. I truly believe that. Finally, to say that Felton is solely responsible is so, so wrong. As the next commenter points out, Vince Dooley is as much at fault as anyone.
