Well, Georgia has lost to Kentucky and Vanderbilt in the same season for the first time since 1973. I said in my preview this morning that the Dogs would win if they cut down on the turnovers. Neither of those happened. Stafford threw three interceptions, again, and the Dawgs turned it over on a Mario Raley fumble as well. I didn't see the play, but listening it reminded me of Reggie Brown at Auburn in 2004. I really hope Mario is ok.
The turnovers are frustrating, but kids make mistakes (and you can't fault Raley for his fumble). The coaching staff is made up of adults that get paid for what they do. The continued lack of carries for Lumpkin is downright dumbfounding. Looking at the box score, he carried the ball ten times in the first half at an average of over eight yards per carry. In the second half he carried the ball three times. I understand coming into the game with the plan to throw. I mean, Kentucky was last in the conference in passing defense. But when Lumpkin is feeling it, feed him the ball. Players need to make plays, and coaches need to coach. Not sure we're doing a good job of either right now.
Coming into the season, I thought this team would be 8-4, maybe 9-3. I never thought we'd be staring down the barrel of a 6-6 season at this point. This has to be the worst Georgia team since 1996. That was a transition year, as it was Donnan's first season. I'm not sure we can even call this a rebuilding year. What have we rebuilt? When you start 5-0, then lose 4 of 5 including losses to Vandy and UK, there's not much building going on.
Usually its the Kentucky fans saying this, but is it basketball season yet?
