This is a devastating blow for DJ, and it's also very bad news for the Falcons. With the way DJ was playing against the Bills, I think the Falcons would have been comfortable keeping Harrington, Redman, and Shockley as their three quarterbacks. Now it looks like the Falcons will sign yet another qb.
It's bad news for Shockley because the NFL is a business, and he could end up losing his job due to this. Not this year, but maybe down the line. The Falcons will put DJ on injured reserve for the year. But next year, he'll need to impress the team to stick around. That could be hard to do coming off this injury. However, history has shown that DJ is a fast healer. I'll be rooting for a speedy recovery along with a return to the field as a Falcon next season.

I still think getting rid of Schaub was a mistake for the Falcons, Schaub and Shockley would have done more than Harrington and Redman in my opinion. I hope the best for Shockley.
ReplyDeleteIn hindsight, sure, trading Schaub was a huge mistake. Had the team known the likelihood of Vick being indicted were so high, they never would have shopped Schaub. At the time, many were giving Atlanta praise for wrestling away two second-round picks from Houston. With the help the defense certainly needed, the trade looked like a move that could help the team get back to the postseason.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a shame to see another roadblock thrown in front of DJ. He looked very good against the Bills and I was interested to see his battle with Redman continue through the preseason.
Now I suppose the Birds begin scouring for their quarterback of the future? Brian Brohm? John David Booty?
We could always wait till Stafford graduates? lol
ReplyDeleteI think Stafford is going to make headlines in the NFL one day, I only hope he actually gets a starting role and not benched like Greene for so long ;/
Without question. Definitely looks like Stafford could have an NFL arm if nothing else.
ReplyDeleteAs for Greene, I can't even begin to say how frustrating it was watching Greene throw up three INTs in the second half last Saturday night. Any chance Greene gets cut sometime in the immediate future? I thought he might eventually get some snaps if Holmgren decided to use Seneca Wallace as a wideout, but it looks like he's committed to keeping him under center.
I always loved Greene too... hopefully he'll string together a couple of nice series before they break camp.
