UGA RB Situation

Clear cut #1? That's the main issue right now with the Dawgs' offense but does it need to be?

Most fans are clamoring for a decision on who should start AND get the majority of the carries this year. There are the usual arguments (Mark Bradley's 'clever' Tailback Who? article) and the usual speculating experts (the 'I saw Caleb King play in high school once...give him the rock!' types) but I think I know what will happen.

I read somewhere that Mike Bobo is not necessarily looking to find a primary guy but rather he is looking to ride the 'hot hand' and substitute less. You can't see it in the rest of the photo but the play clock is at 6, everyone is looking over their shoulder to see if they need to leave the field and AJ Bryant is still about 8 yds from the huddle that is about to break with 12 guys.

I can think of more than a few times at Sanford Stadium when I have tapped Jim on the shoulder and asked why the heck one of the RB's was coming off the field. I think that it hurt the continuity and flow of the offense and it was looked at as a very mechanical coaching maneuver. Hopefully this will lead to less subbing of the receivers as well. Of course this means that there will be less chances to see 3rd and 4th string receivers running in while flapping their arms like Joseph-Gordon Levitt in Angels in the Outfield.

Besides, is it important that we have our first 1,000 yd rusher since Musa, that Lumpkin averages 25 carries a game, or is it even likely that one guy can make it through an SEC schedule without missing time?

I'd say no...focus on the effects that the subbing was having on the offense, and win some football games!

  1. Deaner! I am enjoying your guest blogging. Is it bad that I am on the Knowshon Moreno bandwagon? I think it is just because I really like his name.

  2. I have been calling him "No Show" since we started recruiting him. Hopefully the "No Show" will be what the opposing defense will be calling him because he is already in the end zone.

  3. I haven't used Knowshon in a sentence since UGA basketball a few years ago.

"I know Shon Coleman will turn it over if he dribbles."
