So Caleb King Might Actually Play

I've been noticing writers dropping hints about Caleb King getting more work in practice. They were all very subtle and towards the end of notebooks. But people aren't being subtle anymore. It's sounding more and more like the kid just might play. David Ching has put up two posts on the topic today. Throw in Carter Strickland's most recent article, and I'm really starting to wonder what the heck is going on.

The last player to lose his redshirt season this late was Mike Gilliam. I believe it was 2001 when he was thrust into action at tailback due to injuries, but I really don't remember the year. Prior to that, Jasper Sanks didn't play until the Vandy game in 1998. So it's not like this is uncharted territory for Georgia.

I figured after the Western Carolina game that King was guaranteed a redshirt. But, that was before Kregg Lumpkin and Thomas Brown got hurt. If he can help us win right now, then I think it's worth it. Plus, if he's as good as advertised, you might as well play him while he's in school.

What I don't want to see happen is get him into a game, and then realize he's not ready...Thomas Brown comes back from injury and King gets a few carries here and there. He should only play if he's going to make a significant impact. Basically, if we're looking at a Mike Gilliam or Jasper Sanks scenario...leave him on the shelf until next year.
