Everybody Get your Black Out

Okay, so the senior Dogs want everyone in Sanford Stadium to pull a Jerry Glanville and wear black to the game on Saturday. Richt asked them why and here is their response:
“The seniors are encouraging the Bulldog Nation to wear black on Saturday,” Richt said dutifully. “I asked them why and they said they thought it would be cool and it would show some unity between the team and the fans.”
Um, okay. Shouldn't blackouts be done for a night game? Either way The Deaner will honor their wishes and wear black. Let's just hope we're not in mourning after the game! Good idea, Bad idea? Will you participate? Leave a comment below!

  1. Can we please stop trying stunts like this? Does anyone remember how this turned out last time? We tried a blackout against Tennessee last year ... and we got our Bulldog butts handed to us. The only team in the SEC that tries stuff like this are the Cocks, and they almost always lose when they do.

Let's just focus more on getting past Auburn's defense and less on what the crowd is wearing.

  2. I agree with the previous anon. I heard that the seniors wanted this to get emotion from the crowd to jack our team up. I don't want to sound like Dan Hawkins, but this is D1 football against one of your big 3 rivals. It is "The Rivalry" which I am betting the over/under for the CBS broadcast team using that term will be 30. I digress though, if the team can't get up for this game then that tells me a lot about their focus or lack of in this case. I hope I am wrong, but I think it is going to get ugly between the hedges this weekend.

  3. Anon 1 - Did the players ask the fans to wear black against UT? No. I don't recall the players ever asking the fans to do anything really. The least we can do is wear a black shirt to a game.

Anon 2 - These are kids! They probably see other schools doing things like this and think it is cool. Now they want us to do it. Would it be such a bad thing for the entire stadium to be in one color?

To everyone in general - It's not like some student group came up with this. The players came up with it! Just wear a black shirt and show the team you support them!

  4. I hear ya, Original Blogger. The players, notably the seniors, requested the Bulldog Nation to show their support for the team and turn out in black so lets go for it. I'm really kinda confused why people are complaining about it. Does it really matter to us, as fans, whether we wear red, or white, or black to the game? If it gives the players a little more energy, then that's cool. Plus, although one commentator pointed out its not a night game, the game likely will be heading into the fourth quarter just as its getting dark, which will look pretty sweet and intimidating if its a close game.

On a side note, I'm kinda hoping we wear black jerseys (although not counting on it). I was completely against the black shirts when I first heard about them, but I'm starting to dig the idea . . . I do want to see us bust out some red pants on the road sometime, but that's just me.

  5. This what gets me so mad at Georgia fans. They would rather wear there "lucky red shirt" every week that gradma bought them instead of going along with wearing a black shirt. Who cares if it is fans or players. It is what people want you to do. So what if we lost to Tennessee when we did it last. That was last year and it is not going to mean that everytime we were a black shirt we will lose! The players are asking you to wear black so freaking wear a black shirt. Grandma will understand I promise.
At georgia basketball games the university would pass out white or black shirts and there was always a group of people that would not wear them and it would look like crap because of them. I get so angry when I watch a Penn State football game or a Michigan State basketball game because I know that our arena or stadium will never look like that. Our fans are too cool to put on a different color shirt and start some new traditions.

  6. Frank - I'd love to see black jerseys, but I doubt it will happen. And if the team wears red pants on the road, people will complain about not wearing "silver britches." And to those people I ask, "What color were Herschel's pants when he ran over Bill Bates?"

    Matt - Amen!
