UT Preview
All the talk today seems to be about the UT players entering the stands of Stegeman Coliseum after their victory in Athens last year. I remember this as if it was yesterday. I was really ticked when it happened. It was a stupid thing to do and Bruce Pearl has admitted as much. However, I do have two thoughts on the incident.
1) If Georgia wins, it doesn't happen.
2) If Georgia fans buy the tickets rather than Tennessee fans, it doesn't happen.
Number 2 seems to be coming along this year. Lets hope 1 and 2 are corrected when UT comes back to Athens in early March.
As for tonight...Two areas we can improve upon from the LSU game to help us win tonight. The first is figuring out the double team. LSU was not the first opponent to double Takais, but they were the best at it. Takais needs to pass the ball to the open man quickly when he is doubled. This should improve the inside out game. I don't think UT will be as successful with the double as LSU anyway, so this may not be too big of a factor. The second is Mike Mercer needs to get on track. We've seen the past few games that Georgia can win when Mike is cold, but if he gets back to playing the way he was early on, watch out. It seems to me like he is forcing his shots. He is taking shots that aren't "his" shots. He is best at driving the lane and putting up a floater, not taking a pull up J from the free throw line.
All in all, I think this should be a good game (even without Lofton...its tough to win on the road). It's a shame it won't be on tv. I guess we'll all be listening to Scott and JD tonight. Go Dawgs!
