Thomas Flowers Q & A

I don't recall ever reading this Q&A with Thomas Flowers. It's a good read. I've been wondering what will happen at punt returner with both Flowers and Mikey Henderson in the mix. Here is what Thomas had to say when asked if he would win back the punt returning job from Mikey...
Yes. I have gotten a lot of complements about me coming back into it. I have a few rough spots to get out first from being out so long, but it is open. Nothing is etched in stone and no jobs are solidified. That will be my mind frame going back into camp.
I really, really like his attitude. However, he is going to have a fierce competition with Mikey for the punt returning duties. As is evidenced below, Mikey is electrifying as a punt returner. On the other hand, I think Flowers has more productive returns on a more consistent basis. We'll just have to see how Flowers is doing after his injury. Either way, I'll feel good about it. FYI, I uploaded this video to YouTube prior to starting this blog. This was the first game highlight video I made.

  1. I would much rather have Flowers returning punts than Henderson. Before he got hurt, it could be argued that Flowers was becoming the best punt returner we've ever had in terms of consistently producing meaningful yardage...plus, he's shown he can take it to the house in a clutch situation. That punt return in Knoxville a couple of years ago won that game for us.

Henderson is more of an "all or nothing" guy. He can take it all the way in the open field, but he won't "flip the field position" nearly as often as Flowers because he's not as effective in traffic due to his build and the fact that he was not a RB in high school like Flowers was.

It's nice to have two good punt returners, but I'll be disappointed if Flowers doesn't get the majority of chances. Too bad both of them are Seniors....I guess Asher Allen will be the guy next year.

  2. I agree 100% with the above comment. Don't forget the punt return against the yellowfaggets that set up the game winning TD in ATL. In a clutch situation Flowers is money.
Mikey's speed needs to be used on the offense to help spread out the defense.
