I Didn't See That Coming

I thought Tech would give us a good game. I thought they'd run the ball well against us. But I was not at all expecting what I saw in Sanford Stadium today. Maybe I should have seen it coming though.

Poor tackling. Poor angles. Drive killing penalties. Horrible kickoffs, kickoff coverage, and kick returns.

The writing has been on the wall all year long. It was just a lot easier to read today.

The thing that hurts the most is to see Massaquoi lose his last game to Tech with the way he played. Maybe we should have put him out there on defense.

  1. Horrible, horrible game. This game also serves as more ammunition to those clamoring for Willie Martinez to be given the boot. Look at the number of points the defense has given up in the team's three losses. Not saying I feel Richt should immediately relieve him of his duties, but these types of games never consistently happened when BVG was running the defense.

The thing that got me was how many Dawgs said the one thing they had to do was stay on their own assignments and not overpursue, yet that is exactly what they did. Especially on third downs, Tech continued to go with the option pitch. But the defense failed to have someone in the flat and on the outside to stop the run, which is why we saw the long runs by the H-backs.

Just an all-around bad football game. I agree - no way your team should lose when you score 42 points. I feel bad for Massaquoi... easily his best game as a Dawg and he comes up on the short end.

  2. Duane - Don't hold your breath on Martinez being fired. The only way he's gone is if he resigns. I will be shocked if Richt fires him.

I'm also still not sure what is a bigger problem: the defense or the special teams.

  3. This game has been coming since the 2005 Sugar Bowl. Richt will not make any changes and mark my words, UGA's defense will get lit up at the bowl game and the 1st game of next year. Richt has put himself into a position where his head is on the chopping block next year if his gamble keeping Martinez fails.

  4. Sp. Teams is fixable with the staff we have. defense is not. therefore, defense is the bigger problem... not to mention its more important...
