One of the things the Deaner and I were talking about after the game was the lack of Kregg Lumpkin. Then, we found out it was because Lumpkin hurt his thumb, and not due to poor performance. Now, it turns out Lumpkin's thumb is worse than initially expected. The AJC is reporting Lumpkin has a broken thumb.
The backfield that looked to be so crowded that Danny Ware left school suddenly isn't so crowded anymore. We now have Brown and Moreno. Caleb King is there as well, and he may have to burn his redshirt if needed.
My first thought was Lumpkin can take a medical redshirt. The problem is he already redshirted in 2004. However, that was a medical redshirt due to a torn ACL. The NCAA will allow multiple medical redshirts, see Will Thompson. The problem is you have to apply for those at the end of the 5th year. I don't know that they'd want to risk that with Lumpkin being hurt in his 5th year.
I hate it for Kregg. I've always liked him as a player, and I've always wanted him to get more carries than he has. Let's hope for a speedy recovery, and if that doesn't happen let's hope for a 6th year of eligibility.
